1. Flame retardant: TDCPP is commonly used as a flame retardant for plastics, polyurethanes, polyurethane foams, and coatings, etc., to enhance their flame retardancy.
2. Chemical intermediate: TDCPP can also be used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds. 

Method:
The preparation of TDCPP is usually achieved by reacting trichlorophosphonic acid with 2,3-dichloropropanol.
